CHAMBER SIGNS MOU WITH HIGH COUNCIL OF CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE OF SPAIN. More than 200 Spanish and Southern California business executives recently participated in the first-ever California-Spain Business Forum, hosted by the L.A. Area Chamber at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the Chamber with the High Council of Chambers of Commerce of Spain, which represents 85 chambers of commerce, to promote trade and investment between the L.A. area and Spain. Private meetings with counterparts in Southern California were held for two days, the first step in exploring mutually beneficial business opportunities and strategic alliances. Latin American Consul Generals receive briefing on 2010 Census Delegates from the Latin American Consul Corps joined in patnership with representatives from the U.S. Census Bureau this week at the Chamber to discuss the importance of the 2010 Census. Attendees heard an overview of the census, its purpose and the direct effect that an accurate count has on our communities. The Chamber is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure a complete and accurate 2010 Census.
Chamber to speak at 2009 Council of State Governments Conference Carlos Valderrama, Chamber Senior VP of Global Initiatives, will address the role of trade in America's economic recovery and long-term economic well-being at the Council of State Governments' 2009 Annual Conference on Thursday. The Council of State Governments (CSG) is our nation's only organization serving all three branches of government.

Trade Commissioners Group meets with California Energy Commission
Members of the Trade Commissioners Networking Group (TCNG) recently met with Tim Olson, International Project Manager of the California Energy Commission. Olson explained that California is interested in implementing and enforcing legislation to insure that investments will be made in every step of the fuel and vehicle development chain including fuel production, fuel storage and blending terminals, fueling infrastructure, vehicle and component manufacturing, vehicle demonstrations and commercial deployment, consumer incentives and workforce training and employment. The Commission is open to international technologies and products and foreign investment in infrastructure, manufacturing plants and California-based facilities to meet its fuel and vehicle needs.
TCNG was established to provide the infrastructure and venue where members can develop their own international trade strategies and programs as they perform their professional responsibilities. The Chamber is committed to working closely with countries who are actively promoting trade and economic opportunities. Private Luncheon with the Korean Ambassador to the United States, Nov. 24 Join the L.A. Chamber and the Korean Consulate General in Los Angeles on Nov. 24, noon -1:30 p.m., as Hon. Duk-Soo Han discusses U.S.-Korea relations and the negotiated Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Korea — the largest economic agreement since NAFTA. South Korea is one of L.A.'s largest trade partners and in the past year alone, trade between the two regions increased more than 5.5 percent, totaling more than $21 billion.
