Chamber testifies in support of permanent freeze for retiree medical subsidies
While the City continues to negotiate employee contributions to health care benefits with the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions (LAFPP) and the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System (LACERS), L.A. City Council voted to draft an ordinance freezing the current maximum medical subsidy amounts for members of LACERS who retire on or after July 1, 2011. A similar proposal for LAFPP members is being considered and will be heard in Council at a later date. An independent actuarial study estimates a savings of $112 million in year one and a 10-year savings of $968 million. Contact Beverly Kenworthy, 213.580.7531.

State Farm Insurance Companies gives high school some "green" to go green
Students at Thomas Jefferson High School — a Public School Choice school — are cleaning and greening the neighborhood, and receiving a little "green" to support their efforts. The school recently received a $5,000 grant from State Farm Insurance Companies' Environmental Grant Program for their work to build a "green alley" near the school. LMA Executive MBA Field Consulting Project Summer 2011
Loyola Marymount University's Executive MBA (EMBA) students have 7-15 years of management experience and are learning to integrate new methods for analyzing business problems and developing practical solutions. The program is looking for Chamber member companies to participate in the Field Consulting Project. By doing so, your company will receive:
• a brief financial analysis
• a working business model tool
