VOLUNTEER AT L.A. CASH FOR COLLEGE: COLLEGE & CAREER CONVENTION, OCT. 3-4
Every year, Cash for College helps thousands of students and their families navigate college admissions and the financial aid process to realize their college and career aspirations, but we can't do it without volunteers. Chamber supports steps towards L.A. City pension reforms
 On Tuesday, City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana released a pension reform proposal recommending the retirement age be increased from 55 to 65 and that maximum pensions be scaled back. Changes would save up to $70 million within five years and as much as $309 million over a decade. "The pension reform proposal made today for new civilian employees by the Mayor and members of the City Council is another positive step in dealing with our long-term pension challenges," said Chamber President & CEO Gary Toebben. "We support this critical action, but want to make it clear that though this is another important step, our work is not done and we must do more to deal with the financial crush of our immediate, mid- and long-term pension obligations." Chamber testifies in support of LADWP rates
 On Wednesday, the Chamber testified at L.A. City Council's Energy & Environment Committee in support of the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power's (DWP) proposal to increase rates approximately 11 percent. After a presentation from Dr. Fred Pickel, the DWP Rate Payer Advocate, the Chamber Board agreed that the increases were necessary to allow the DWP to comply with federal and state mandates, replace our aging infrastructure, ensure reliability and help L.A. meet our efficiency and renewable objectives. Mobility 21's Annual Summit next week
 Attend the largest one-day transportation conference in the State. More than 1,000 transportation leaders, policy makers and nationally-known transportation experts are expected to attend the 11th annual summit on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Disneyland Hotel. Mobility 21 will be honoring Sen. Barbara Boxer with the Transportation Vanguard Award. Sen. Boxer, in her role as chair of the Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works, spearheaded Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21), the bipartisan legislation that included America Fast Forward and expanded TIFIA funding. Northrop Grumman Corporation supplied the navigation and pointing aid for NASA's Curiosity Mars rover, which recently began a two-year exploration of Mars. The LN-200S is a lightweight, fiber-optic inertial measurement unit that will help guide the Mars rover on the planet. 
Congratulations to new member Le Ka for its recent opening on Sixth Street. On Tuesday, the restaurant celebrated its grand opening in the Financial District with a ribbon cutting. The more than 200-seat restaurant serves steak, seafood and tapas.
