"We spend over $850 million a year on homelessness in Los Angeles County. Three-fourths of those resources go to 24 percent of all homeless, most of whom are chronically homeless. Our system doesn't reduce homelessness, it maintains it. If we simply focus that
enormous budget on programs which work, we can eradicate chronic homelessness with parallel
cost-avoidance. We can realize a true return on our investment. "

THE CHAMBER AND L.A. BUSINESS LEADERS CHART END TO CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS IN 5 YEARS. Tuesday, the Los Angeles Business Leaders Task Force on Homelessness issued the Home For Good report, which maps an end to chronic and veteran homelessness in the Los
Angeles region in five years. The report concludes that by adopting and integrating policies
which place the highest priority on creating permanent supportive housing, the region can dramatically
reduce its homeless population, by far the largest in the nation, while relying on resources
which already exist. A joint initiative of the Chamber and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, the Business Leader's Task Force on Homelessness comprises business leaders from throughout the county who have come together with a commitment to end homelessness in our region.
