Chamber meets with LADWP on rate increase
Los Angeles Department of Water & Power General Manager Ron Nichols discussed upcoming basic business costs and the rate increases necessary to meet those costs on Monday. Chamber urges members to pledge jobs for youth
Thank you to AT&T, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Cordoba Corporation, H&R Block, Kaiser Permanente, Vons, Walmart Store, Wells Fargo and other companies for joining Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the Chamber in pledging summer jobs for HIRE LA’s Youth during the Employer Engagement Luncheon last week. So far, the Chamber has helped create more than 1,000 job opportunities for youth within the private sector. But we are still in need of another 1,000 jobs. The Connection Point series is already receiving buzz from Chamber members including Laurie Miller, Woodcraft Rangers. "Teri was very knowledgeable and easy to understand," Miller said.   Chamber members in downtown L.A. celebrate ribbon cuttings
Hurrell Cantrall LLP recently celebrated the opening of its new offices in the Macy's Plaza, in downtown Los Angeles. From left, Managing Partner Tom Hurrell and L.A. City Councilmember Jan Perry, providing a brief overview of upcoming developments in downtown Los Angeles. Read more.

Hooters of Downtown Los Angeles hosted its grand opening celebration recently. "It is very exciting to have a location in the Downtown Los Angeles area. We hope to become a thriving part of the local community and run a restaurant known for its great food and outstanding service,” said Rick Leukert, CEO of the Hooters franchise in Southern California, Washington and Oregon. Icon LA Ultra Lounge recently debuted its state-of-the-art venue space. Icon holds crowds up to 1,500 and boasts an array of adaptable spaces, including a rooftop lounge which looks over the city skyline and can accommodate 500. It is open as a Night Club Thursday - Sunday as well as a Special Events facility. The restaurant will launch in early fall. Learn more.

AQMD Energy Policy Stakeholder Meeting
Thursday, July 28
L.A. Area Chamber

The South Coast Air Quality Management District's Governing Board has directed its staff to develop an AQMD Energy Policy. The draft energy policy provides a list of energy usage facts, policies and actions related to the relationships between energy and air quality within the South Coast Basin.
