Chamber welcomes Berlin Mayor and Chamber of Commerce to L.A.

On Wednesday, the Chamber hosted a delegation of business and political leaders from Sister City Berlin, including the Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Mueller and German Consul General to L.A. Hans Joerg Neumann. The delegation received an economic overview of L.A.'s six mega regions from Beacon Economics Founding Partner Chris Thornberg. The group also took part in a private studio tour as guests of Chamber Board Chair and SVP of Legal and Government Affairs at NBCUniversal, Steve Nissen. The trip celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Los Angeles-Berlin Sister City relationship. SEE THE PHOTOS.

 
Chamber joins infrastructure experts to develop innovative transportation solutions

The Chamber and more than 1,200 transportation, business and elected leaders gathered last Friday for the 16th Annual Mobility 21 Southern California Transportation Summit. Attendees discussed proposals to overcome Southern California's transportation challenges, impacts of state and federal funding trends, connecting transit to aviation, and autonomous vehicles. Leaders also called on legislators to implement transportation projects and innovations, including the passing of SB1. READ MORE.
 
 
Chamber member airlines provide hurricane relief where it's needed most
 
As recovery continues in the areas devastated by Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma, Chamber member airlines have helped provide relief in a major way. Alaska AirlinesAmerican Airlines, Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines have all stepped up and used their resources to help residents by donating funds, volunteer hours, and humanitarian flights filled with millions of pounds of combined relief supplies and water. LEARN HOW YOU CAN HELP.
     
 
Help local students find Cash for College!
 
Join the Chamber as a volunteer at our L.A. Cash for College Annual College & Career Convention, Oct. 12-14. Help local students find money to pursue higher education through Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and financial aid workshops, and explore potential careers at our exhibit hall. Volunteers are needed on Oct.12 from 1-5 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER!
It's good to be a sports fan in L.A. 

While the Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up to begin playoffs tonight, the Los Angeles Sparks wrapped up their season Wednesday at the WNBA Championships. Although they didn't take home the top prize, we congratulate the the Sparks on another spectacular season and wish the Dodgers the best of luck as they head into the playoffs against the Arizona Diamondbacks!
L.A. selected by the Lumina Foundation as one of 17 "Talent Hubs" nationwide

The L.A. Compact is proud to have recently won designation as a "Talent Hub" by the Lumina Foundation. As a talent hub, the Chamber and the L.A. Compact's higher education partners will work to streamline transfer pathways among California State University, Northridge and three L.A. Community College District campuses in the San Fernando Valley. This will enable adults with "some college, no degree" to complete a college credential more efficiently, thereby supporting our efforts to attract and retain a talented workforce. READ THE RELEASE.

This week's 30-in-30 honoree is Vince Wong, graduate of Leadership L.A. '14 and director of Policy and Civic Engagement for Michelson Found Animals Foundation. New report aims to strengthen workforce training to meet regional industry demand

The Center for a Competitive Workforce released a first-of-its-kind report this week, revealing that while the 28 community colleges in the greater L.A. / Orange County Basin are developing talent for the future, there are many opportunities for greater business industry alignment to ensure a reliable pipeline of qualified talent in high growth industries. The Chamber is a partner in the Center for a Competitive Workforce, along with 19 L.A. region community colleges, the Center of Excellence for Labor Market Research at Mt.
