Chamber to take leadership role on housing for L.A. City Council President
 
On Tuesday, L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson announced the formation of a new commission on affordable housing in partnership with the Chamber and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor (LAFed). The commission will suggest solutions to L.A.'s housing shortage and affordability crisis. The commission was announced during Wesson's speech setting his agenda for his final term as L.A. Securing your business in an insecure world
 
Special Agent John Palieri from the Los Angeles Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined the Chamber's Innovation & Technology Council to discuss the threats of cybersecurity to businesses. The presentation included various attack methods used by criminals to obtain information about businesses, statistics on losses to business and cost-efficient ways to protect against cyber-attacks. Gov. Brown signs California cap-and-trade extension

Tuesday, Gov. Jerry Brown signed California's cap-and-trade, extending the program to 2030. Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León joined the Chamber last week to discuss the cap-and-trade extension at a joint meeting of the Chamber's Transportation & Goods Movement and Energy, Water & Environmental Sustainability Councils. The Chamber supported cap-and-trade as a compromise that balances environmental protection with market certainty and economic growth. READ MORE and SEE THE PHOTOS.
 
Metro Board passes Zero Emission Bus strategic plan
 
The Chamber testified at the Metro Board of Directors meeting yesterday to urge the Board to approve a technology-neutral, performance-based approach to transitioning to a cleaner bus fleet. The Board passed the Zero Emission Bus strategic plan with the amendments that the business community asked for, which will lead to a more cost effective and inclusive process. LEARN MORE.


Chamber member awarded $90.8 million Metro contract
 
Chamber member Triunity Engineering & Management and their partner Kal Krishnan Consulting has been awarded a $90.8 million contract by Metro, the largest contract ever awarded to a small, minority-owned business. The contract is for program management support services provided to implement Measure M. READ MORE.

Last week, NextLA, the exciting new iteration of the L.A. Junior Chamber of Commerce, hosted a booth at L.A.'s Largest Mixer at the Pasadena Convention Center. Chamber and LARExC STEP Grant support leads to market success
 
In early March, the Chamber and the Los Angeles Regional Export Council (LARExC) used a California State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) Grant to fund the participation of seven regional manufacturers in the first ever California Pavilion at the Australian International Airshow. Participating executives reported over half a million dollars in sales to foreign buyers as a result of the trade show. The event was made possible thanks to the U.S. Commercial Service and the Small Business Administration's STEP Grant through the California STEP Grant Initiative. Chamber engages business and education leaders on LACCD strategic plan
 
This week, the L.A. Compact partnered with the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) to engage business and education leaders on LACCD's new strategic plan. The plan lays out LACCD's strategic vision and includes goals related to increasing certificate, degree and transfer completion; improving organizational effectiveness; and ensuring fiscal integrity. The Chamber is a signatory to the L.A. Compact, a bold commitment by 23 leading L.A. organizations to transform regional education outcomes, ensuring that today's youth have the skills to compete and succeed in the new, global workforce.
