ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! NEW COALITION TO FIX LAX NOW Today, the Chamber announced that it will partner with the L.A. County Federation of Labor, LA/Orange Counties Building & Construction Trades Council and other business organizations in addressing a city and region-wide issue: the modernization of LAX. The creation of the Coalition was triggered by Los Angeles International Airport Specific Amendment Plan Study (SPAS) Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR), which is anticipated to be released for public comment very soon. "After nearly 20 years of studies and planning to fix LAX, we felt enough is enough and we needed to put the full effort of the business community behind ensuring our elected officials make the necessary decisions to finally give L.A. a 21st Century airport rather than kick the can down the road one more time ," said Gary Toebben, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. Other prominent business organizations which have joined the Coalition to Fix LA Now include the Central City Association of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, the Valley Industry and Commerce Association and the Los Angeles Coalition for the Economy and Jobs. Jerry Brown and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced deal on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, known as the Bay Delta Conservation Plan. The Chamber, along with major business and labor organizations across the State, applauded the announcement after urging the governor and federal government to take action. "The BDCP represents the most exhaustive planning effort in history to review various ways to move water through the Delta and various ways to restore the estuary," said Gary Toebben, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
