Chamber, Mayor launch 2009 Cash for College workshops
The Chamber, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Ed Reyes and Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member Dr. Richard Vladovic, along with students and parents, launched the 2009 Cash for College Workshops at Franklin High School Monday. In honor of his upcoming Day of Service, the mayor asked for volunteers for Cash for College workshops on Saturday. "This year, more than ever, it is imperative that students understand that the dream of paying for a college education is not out of reach," said Mayor Villaraigosa. Chamber discusses economic stimulus bill in relation to transportation
As legislators in Washington, D.C. continue to negotiate the terms of the $920 billion economic stimulus bill, the Chamber’s Transportation & Goods Movement Committee Thursday heard from Lisa McLean, Director of Transportation Infrastructure, U.S. Chamber, about the transportation funding in the bill and from Norman Emerson, Emerson & Associates, about the logistics and goods movement policy and funding in the Federal Transportation New Authorization. "We need to demonstrate how we’ve used our past investment wisely and that we have a strong case, moving forward, for additional revenue," Emerson said. Attend public meeting on formation of Prop 11. Citizen’s Commission
With Prop 11. – California VOTERS First – now passed into law, the California Bureau of State Audits will host a series of public meetings to solicit comments related to the formation of the Independent Citizen's Commission that will redraw California district lines to help end partisan gridlock in Sacramento.
