Chamber endorses three candidates for L.A. City Council
 The Chamber is endorsing L.A. City Councilmember Paul Krekorian, District 2; L.A. City Councilmember Bernard Parks, District 8; and Councilmember Deputy Mitchell Englander, District 12 in the March 8 elections. The Chamber is endorsing candidates that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to making Los Angeles more jobs and business friendly, and implementing meaningful budget and pension reforms at City Hall. Chamber successful in garnering 30/10 initiative funding support
 Since last year the Chamber has been working to secure support for the 30/10 transportation initiative. This week, U.S. Chamber President Thomas Donahue and National AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka joined forces to endorse transportation spending, which included the initiative. Chamber meets with goods movement expert
 U.S. job creation is growing, albeit slowly, said economist John Husing, Economics & Politics, Inc., at the Chamber's Global Initiatives Council meeting Wednesday. "Consumer spending is not going to help us in getting out of this economic downturn," said Husing. "Exporting activity will as we create more employment." Most of the trade comes from entrepreneurs — many of them immigrants. California, Husing said, is a "state of risk takers. We need to harness that, particularly when it comes to trade." Torrey Pines Bank recently announced that it has helped to sponsor a $50,000 grant to Homeboy Industries through Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco's Access to Housing and Economic Assistance for Development Program. The grant will be used to train at-risk youth — formerly involved with gangs — in the rapidly growing eco-conscious trade of solar panel installation.
