Chamber advocates for California's community college students

Wednesday, the Chamber stood in support of AB 1468 and 2.1 million California Community College students during the Senate Education Committee in Sacramento. The Chamber is partnering with Assemblymember David Chiu, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges and Scholarship America on AB 1468 to allow community colleges to utilize existing funding to create "emergency aid" programs that provide small dollar grants to students facing financial crises. Emergency aid programs have been proven effective at keeping students enrolled in school when the unexpected happens. The bill passed out of Committee.

Chamber welcomes senior Chinese government officials

The Chamber welcomed 14 Chinese government officials and business leaders representing 13 provinces. These executives, responsible for foreign commercial relations  with other countries and cities around the world, are interested in developing closer trade and investment relations with the L.A. region, and in having the Chamber serve as the facilitator in the region. Many Chinese provinces are economically strong and active in global markets, while others are in the process of becoming more industrialized and have limited contact with foreign trading partners.
