Chamber advocates for business priorities and presents economic report to L.A. City Council
The Chamber convened more than 200 business and community leaders Wednesday for ACCESS L.A. City Hall, the Chamber's annual advocacy event to build stronger partnerships between City Hall and local businesses. Beacon Economics Founding Partner Chris Thornberg presented the 2017 L.A. City Council Districts Economic Report to the Council, comparing employment, average wage, tax revenue and building permit data from the last year for each of L.A.'s 15 Council Districts. Chamber leadership reviewed eight action items to improve our economy. Prior to the presentation, attendees heard from L.A.'s elected officials including Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Controller Ron Galperin, City Attorney Mike Feuer, Council President Herb Wesson and five City Councilmembers. MWD Board holds hearing on future of California WaterFix
The Metropolitan Water District (MWD) Board of Directors held a hearing Tuesday on the California WaterFix proposed by Gov. Brown to modernize the State Water Project. Chamber Pesident & CEO Gary Toebben provided strong testimony in support of the project. The board is scheduled to vote on their funding for the California WaterFix on Oct. 10. FivePoint reaches historic settlement on Newhall Ranch development
FivePoint reached a settlement Monday with environmental groups, clearing the way for the development of their $13 billion Newhall Ranch project. Under the agreement, FivePoint will begin the development while providing $25 million for conservation efforts to balance L.A.
