World Trade Week Kickoff Breakfast
Celebrate the 85th Annual World Trade Week at the Los Angeles Marriott Downtown on Friday, May. Join more than 400 executives and members of the diplomatic corps, Chair & CEO of BNSF Railway Company Matt Rose, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster and Stanley T. Olafson Honoree Dr. Richard Drobnick, University of Southern California. The program will also highlight the Japan Business Association in celebration of their 50th anniversary. Congressional and L.A. City Council staff members receive briefing on impact of trade

Key representatives in the international trade community, including the U.S. Commercial Service, Los Angeles World Airports, the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach, recently met with Congressional and L.A. City Council staff members at the Chamber for a briefing on the positive impact of trade on California's economy. The briefing also highlighted the urgency in passing pending U.S. Free Trade Agreements.

Chamber hosts Senior Commercial Officers
Last month the Chamber hosted 32 Senior Commercial Officers (SCOs) attending the East Asia/Pacific SCO Strategy meeting. These diplomats represented most of the U.S. Embassies in the Pacific Rim. U.S. Department of Commerce officials from Washington D.C. also participated in several of these meetings and round table discussions.

Chamber welcomes Guangzhou, China trade delegation
Earlier this month, Chamber President & CEO Gary Toebben welcomed and briefed the Guangzhou trade delegation visiting Los Angeles. The Guangzhou Official Trade Delegation, led by Vice Mayor Chen Mingde, celebrated the 30th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Los Angeles and Guangzhou. Vice Mayor Chen and 80 Guangzhou business executives and investors sought opportunities to expand trade and collaboration in the development of high-tech, environmental protection and green technologies with local counterparts.

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHT:
Japan Business Association of Southern California
The Chamber congratulates the Japan Business Association of Southern California (JBA) as its celebrates its 50th anniversary. JBA was established as a not-for-profit organization half a century ago as the Japan Traders Club of Los Angeles. Having started with the membership of 48 Japanese companies, JBA has weathered a series of dramatic changes in the business environment both in the United States and Japan, and has grown to be an indispensable organization for its 450 Japanese corporate members, which serves as the mainstay of the U.S.-Japan business relationship in Southern California.

JBA is collecting donations to assist the victims and support the rebuilding of the affected areas in Japan. If you can support this effort, make your check payable to "The JBA Foundation" and send the check to JBA's office on or before April 30, 2011. With the assistance and guidance of the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles, JBA will utilize your donations for the aforementioned purposes.
