Chamber receives update on the future of Japan and its trade relationship with the United States

Last month, RAND Corporation researchers Julia Lowell and Rachel Swanger shared with the Chamber's Global Initiatives Council the prospects of Japan and the United States finding common ground and cooperating on global trade, and whether including Japan in the Trans Pacific Partnership would be the best move. "Business organizations and government entities need to become stakeholders and make their support for Japan to join the Trans Pacific Partnership known. Both sides on the local level need to be engaged," said Lowell, economist and professor at the Pardee RAND Graduate School. Contact Jasmin Sakai-Gonzalez, 213.580.7569

Trade Commission of Pakistan seeks to involve Pakistani-American Business executives with the Chamber
Pakistan

In late July, Eazaz Dar, commercial counselor for the Consulate General of Pakistan, invited 15 Pakistani-American businessmen to the Chamber for a private round table discussion on the importance of being involved in the Los Angeles business community. Congressmember Judy Chu and Hon. Riffat Masood, Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles, spoke to the group.

TCNG was established to provide the infrastructure and venue where foreign diplomats, including trade commissioners, can develop their own international trade strategies and programs as they perform their professional responsibilities. The Chamber is committed to working closely with countries who are actively promoting trade and economic opportunities. Contact

Trade Mission: Messe Nagoya 2012, Nov. 7-10
The Chamber and the Port of Los Angeles are joining efforts in the recruitment of regional companies to participate in the Messe Nagoya Trade Show 2012. Nagoya is the center of the Chubu region, often called "Japan's Industrial Heartland," due to its industrial volume supported by the world's finest technologies. Greater Nagoya accounts for 2 percent of the world's total manufactured goods and Nagoya's GDP accounts for 1.3 percent of the world GDP. The Nagoya region has a special significance for the City of Los Angeles. Nagoya was the first Sister City of Los Angeles and this relationship was established in 1959. In addition to this senior status, Los Angeles has a sister port relationship with the Port of Nagoya and the Chamber has a similar relationship with the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce and Industry. To participate in the trade show, contact Norman Arikawa, 310.732.3838.
