Hello friend --
Happy National Small Business Week to our entrepreneurs!
Dream small business
Did you know that 67 percent of all job growth between 2009 and 2015 was created by small businesses? That’s 2 out of every 3 jobs! We at Bixel Exchange salute our startups who help fuel the economic growth of our region, creating jobs, sparking innovation and simply making Los Angeles an amazing place to live, work and play. On that note …
Help recognize outstanding small businesses
On May 24, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Administration invite you to attend the 2016 Small Business Awards presented by Wells Fargo. Before the awards luncheon, join the discussion about the importance of innovation for small businesses success. The program starts with a case study presentation, and is followed by a panel discussion on specific ways small businesses can innovate.
Changes for Innovation & Technology Council
We’re happy to officially announce Mike Silacchi, regional vice president of external affairs at AT&T, as the Chamber’s new Innovation & Technology Council chair! Silacchi will replace Steve Nissen, NBCUniversal’s legal and government affairs senior vice president, who has served as chair since the council's inception in 2014. We thank him for his utmost dedication and service!
Startups in the Valley? Totally.
The San Fernando Valley is home to a surging number of startups that contribute to the economic growth of the area, as well as the Greater Los Angeles region. So, what more can we do to ensure they have the right resources to grow? Come join the conversation with Bixel Exchange and Valley co-working space OfficeSlice on May 14. Larry Twersky, CEO of Timer Cap and 1800-snoring – both companies based in the Valley, will be a featured speaker.
Moving forward on transportation
Automated vehicles? The Hyperloop? The future of transportation is exciting. Startups in the Sky’s free May 19 panel will explore innovations in transportation. Tickets are free for the first 200 folks who sign up! Bixel Exchange is an event sponsor.
Why aren’t there more women?
In a male-dominated industry, women founders often encounter challenges unique to the perception of their gender. They’re deemed higher risk investments because they trend more conservative in their financial forecasts. They don’t have the network and mentoring to know how to “play the game.” Or their businesses are sometimes slower growth, thus not as attractive to investors looking for a quick return. Such topics were addressed during LA Catalyst’s April 28 roundtable discussion on gender disparity in tech. Bixel Exchange leaned in on the thought-provoking discussion, as one of the main discussion leaders, in addition to representatives from several women advocate groups, and female founders of local startups. Join the conversation at LA Catalyst’s next roundtable discussion on May 24.
Hello, my name is HANS
Way to go, startup client Brainitch Solutions, who successfully soft-launched its automated personal concierge bot, HANS (Helpful Automated Nexus System), at Coachella! Users were able to engage with the friendly and conversational bot to receive aggregated lists of set times for each stage, in addition to answers about artists, vendors, event logistics, rules and more. Watch for their official debut in upcoming months.
