Hello friend --
We're happy to share several workshops we've cooked up for startups this March. See our events calendar to keep current.
Disrupting the disruptors with Los Angeles Councilman Bob Blumenfield
Regulation and incentives are just a few of the things proposed in response to the new hybrid market model of the shared economy. Join us March 15 as we talk with Councilman Bob Blumenfield about the government’s role in building and managing this. Blumenfield is chair of the City of Los Angeles’ Innovation, Grants, Technology, Commerce and Trade Committee. RSVP today for this FREE Innovation & Technology Council conversation!
Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas visits
The department’s senior administrative and policy manager visited us at the Chamber to share insight into the department’s operations, which include response procedures to the department’s 450,000 annual calls, philosophy of change -- adopted shortly after Terrazas took office in 2014 -- as well and how the department collaborates with other agencies and organizations such as NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and uses software tools like UC San Diego’s WIFIRE, NFORS and UAVs (aka drones) to deploy tech solutions that rapidly decrease response times in the City of Angels. Thanks to all those who participated!
Finance 101 for your startup
Do income statements or balance sheets send you running for the hills? Fear not. On March 3, come get a (FREE) basic understanding of accounting and finance that’s critical for entrepreneurs, and learn the fundamentals of building a financial model from the ground up, with Bixel advisor Mackenzie Chambers, founder and managing director of financial services firm Square Root Financial. Sign up today!
Think fast, win big at AppJam
AppJam 2016, Cal State Northridge’s mobile app competition where students compete to solve real-life problems for the campus or community, will commence March 3 through March 30. Winners will receive cash prizes and the chance to win startup consulting services with yours truly! Know a CSUN student that may be interested? Pass it on! AppJam is part of CSUN’s first Spring of Innovation, where current CSUN students can learn how to launch a startup, receive mentorship and submit a mobile app prototype. See their video.
Win $10K in free export credits from UPS
Our friends at UPS want to help local businesses connect with the world. Enter the UPS X-PORT Challenge, in which businesses submit an online application to share who they are and why their product has global appeal. The top 15 applicants will be invited to a “Pitch Off” on May 12 in San Jose to demonstrate to a panel of judges from businesses, nonprofits and investors that specialize in global commerce. Apply today!

Downtown Los Angeles-based fashion tech accelerator Grid110
