The Fifth Annual The Americas Business Forum
On May 22, more than 170 members of the local STEM community attended a Symposium, hosted by the Los Angeles Regional STEM Hub at the L.A. Area Chamber, in collaboration with the Global Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at California State University, Los Angeles. The symposium sought to advance an understanding of how to create engaging and relevant STEM instruction. Participants discussed opportunities for work-based learning to interpret and implement the Mathematics Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, as well as business-education partnerships.
On March 6, 2013, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce officially launched the L.A. STEM Hub during the STEM Workforce Seminar held at Northrop Grumman. The Chamber hosted more than 150 memberes of L.A.'s STEM community. Participants discussed how education and industry can collaborate in innovative ways to drive reform in K-12/undergraduate education and provide sustainable models for STEM workfroce and skills development. California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson spoke on the California STEM Taskforce and its efforts to develop guiding principles for K-12 STEM education.
