Chamber Board votes to endorse High Speed Rail bond
The Chamber’s Board of Directors voted Thursday to endorse Proposition 1, a $9 billion statewide bond measure on the November ballot, which would build a high speed rail line from San Diego to Sacramento. The line will be able to handle speeds above 200 miles per hour, with a two and a half hour travel time between Los Angeles and San Francisco. In addition to the bond, funding is expected to also come from the federal government and through private investment (public-private partnerships) in the project. Additional state and local ballot initiatives will be considered by Chamber policy committees and the Board in the coming months. Chamber advocates for state water solutions with L.A. City Council
Chamber policy staff, Board Member Gilbert Ivey, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and the Valley Industry & Commerce Association met with members of the L.A. City Council on Wednesday to discuss the importance of local advocacy for long-term fixes to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. More than one-third of our region’s water flows through the Delta, which is at serious risk of Katrina-like levee breaks and environmental degradation. The group met with councilmembers and their staff, including City Councilmembers Tony Cardenas, Wendy Greuel, Janice Hahn, Tom LaBonge, Bill Rosendahl and City Council President Eric Garcetti. Contact Senior Public Policy Manager Alexander Pugh, 213.580.7558 or apugh@lachamber.com.

The SCSA oversees the Department of General Services to ensure fair competition. The council will also hear from Jim Butler, chief procurement officer for the state.
