The Trump administration has officially informed the U.S. Congress of its intent to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Newly confirmed U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer has suggested the White House will pursue a course of "modernizing" NAFTA, rather than pulling out of the agreement.

NAFTA took effect in January 1994. At that time, the following companies and the sectors they represent were not in existence:
  • Amazon
  • Google
  • Tesla
  • Uber
Since then, manufacturing and technology have rapidly evolved and rules of origin may no longer be applicable. Supply chain management has become more integrated, the logistics sector has evolved and professional services are now more important than ever in linking regional economies.

Join us as Joel Backaler, Managing Director of Global Marketing for Frontier Strategy Group provides an update on the potential regional implications of the NAFTA renegotiation:
  • How will the renegotiation affect the commercial and industrial interests of existing supply chains and manufacturers in North America?
  • What new trade and investment issues should be addressed in the negotiation?
  • How can California benefit from a modernized agreement?

The Global Initiatives Council works to create employment opportunities throughout Southern California by increasing exports, imports and foreign investment for companies of all sizes, and for the communities in which they conduct business.
